Our Vision

“We believe every child is unique, a competent learner from birth and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. We are committed to developing positive relationships so our children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving secure relationships with parents and/or their key person. We aim to provide enabling environments for all our children that play a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning. We believe children learn in different ways and at different rates, and that all areas of learning and development are equally important and interconnected.”

St Matthew's supports strong partnerships with parents and always recognise that they are a child's first and foremost most enduring educator. We value parents contributions and encourage a mutual and trusting relationship throughout the Foundation Stage year. We will do this through:

  • Forging strong links in our 'Raindrops' playgroup
  • Website information/signposts to EYFS support materials for parents
  • Open days in the Summer Term
  • Taster sessions for children in our setting
  • Parents welcome pack
  • Children’s welcome pack
  • Meet and greet each morning
  • Messy mornings
  • Stay and play sessions
  • Parent Conferences
  • Parent workshops (Phonics, Number)
  • Weekly Newsletters
  • Home/School link diaries
  • Learning journey contributions
  • Parent voice in work books
  • Home School Activity bags
  • School EYFS celebrations (Christmas, Graduation etc.)
  • Assemblies
  • Special planned collaborative events (Cookery, School dinners, gardening, enterprise days etc.)
New Entrants Day

We invite all children and parents to an open day at St Matthew's. This gives parents and children the opportunity to meet staff, ask questions and take a look around their new school. We really enjoy getting to know the new cohort before they start in September. Also in preparation for the children starting school they are given a welcome pack which includes our prospectus, reading book and many more surprises!
