- ensure all uniform is labelled with your child's full name (including shoes, coats and bags).
- your child can bring in a healthy snack each day (no chocolate or crisps)
- we spend lots of our time outdoors so please feel free to leave wellies and raincoats in school for the colder months - again please clearly label these items.
- book bags need to be brought into school every day (containing their school reading book, reading record and Phonics booklets).
Trip to Calderstones Park

'Captain Morgan' the Space Pirate
Reception had a special visitor this week and his name was Captain Morgan the Space Pirate. These are some of the amazing questions that the children had for Captain Morgan:
"why do people build robots and leave them on the moon?" John
"why do planets have moons?" Lottie
"why is the sun a big star?" Noah
"why does Earth have green and blue?" Oscar T
"why does Saturn have ring around it?" Nancy
"why do people say the man on the moon?" Miller
"why does Neptune pull in Pluto?" Harley
He taught the children lots of facts about space through fun games and activities.
What a great day!
Fun in the sun
We have been using the big yard to help us get ready for Year 1. We really enjoyed performing on the stage and playing games such as, "whats the time Mr Wolf?" To link in with our maths topic of time.
We have been enjoying the sun in our new summer uniforms.
Don't we look smart?
We had a lovely trip to Greenacres fam. We got to meet a lot of different animals including, Sid the goat, Marshmallow the Polish chicken and Charlie the parrot. Charlie was our favourite because he could say hello to us.
We also went on a tractor ride to see the alpacas, highland cows, somali sheep and many more interesting animals. At the end of the day we got to play in a big playground with all of our friends.
World Book Day 2018
Snowing at St Matthew's
We all had a wonderful morning making pizza and decorating pizza boxes with our parents and grandparents! We looked at how we could make our pizzas symmetrical when adding the toppings. They smelt delicious and the children were very excited to take them home to eat for tea.
Thank you to all the adults who came along for the fun!
Safer Internet Day
We celebrated Safer Internet Day at St Matthew's by playing some fun games to make us more aware of how we are all connected online and how to stay safe on the internet.
Music and Movement
This week the children had a special visit from two ladies from Sure Start, we sang some lovely songs and got play musical instruments.
The Story Barn
We have had a fantastic day at The Story Barn; we went on an adventure using our imaginations to create our very own story. We also listened to stories and at the end of the day, we chose a book to take home so that we can share our love of stories with others.
When will it hatch?
This term we have been learning all about dinosaurs. The children are very excited because we found a 'real dinosaur egg' in our classroom. We have been waiting patiently for it to hatch but so far we can only see some small cracks in the shell...I wonder how long it will take?
