Year 5 Class - 5E - Summer - 2018 - 2019

Things to remember;

Our dance day is Tuesday.

Our PE day is Wednesday.

Please make sure P.E kits stay in school all week. Tracksuits will be needed shortly as the weather starts to get a bit colder!

Homework is given out on Monday and should be returned completed on a Friday. Each week there will be a Maths and an English task connected to the work we will be doing in class that week.

Spellings can be practised every night using the look, say, cover, write, check method. And times tables can be practised with speed and accuracy sheets.

These skills are very important as we prepare for Year 6!

Please also try to read every night! Children who read every night and bring their reading records in every day will be rewarded with certificates and book marks as they progress up our reading ladder.

We appreciate all of your time and help and hope to make lots of progress and have lots of fun this term!

The Legend of King Authur
We were lucky to have a visit from the Manchester Actors Company to perform the Legend of King Aurthur to us. It was a great story and has really helped us with our writing.
Messy Morning

Year 5 enjoyed their messy morning with the parents looking at out Art topic on 'Plants and Flowers.'

We did some sketching, origami, water colours and collage.

History Week
This week we have been studying the sensitive topic of the 'Slave Trade.' We have studied what happened, why it happened and we looked at the impact that it had on the city of Liverpool.
Science Week
You must consent to the use of advertising cookies to allow this YouTube video to show.
We are studying changes in materials in Science this term. We will be looking at how some changes are reversible while some aren't as well as how we can separate materials.
Cleaning Water

After a plane crash, we find ourselves stranded on a desert island (with nothing to drink) in the blazing sun. The only tools for survival we have are what is left in our trusty backpack; plastic bags, paper cups, a sieve and some filter paper.

Parched, weak and exhausted and after hours of searching we find a small stream. The problem is; when we collect the water, it is dirty and full of debris. The question is: can we make this water clean enough to drink?

Make sure you are visiting Spelling Shed regularly to perfect your basic skills! 5 minutes a day will make a huge difference!
Art - Plants and Flowers
In our Art topic we have been concentrating on creating birds in a variety of different ways leading up to building sculptures
Science Careers Talk
A group of our girls were lucky enough to visit the Anglican Cathedral for a talk about carears in science from Britain's first female astronaut Helen Sharman.
Global Week
We have been researching where our food comes from and how many miles it is to get here.
Transformation

We have been studying the story of Pentecost and how the Holy Spirit impacted on their lives. We have been trying to make links to our own lives and think how the Holy Spirit can help us in the future.

Properties of Materials
We have been trying to find out which materials have the most uses by rating their properties.
