Please remember your P.E. kit for P.E. on Thursdays and Dance on Fridays.
- Homework is given out on a Monday and is due in on a Friday.
- Children will be tested on their spellings and times tables every Friday.
- Please read with your child every night.
- Music and Mandarin are on Wednesday .
Class 2R have been investigating which material would be the most suitable to use to build a bridge. We couldn't believe how strong some of the materials were.
The children have been investigating to see which ball is the bounciest. They used their measuring skills to help them find the answer to their question and discussed how they can keep the test fair.
The children had a great time at Chester Zoo. We saw lots of animals including a baby giraffe and a baby chimpanzee. Some of us where even brave enough to enter the bat cave!
The children have been exploring different ways to sort 2d shapes based on their properties.
The children have been observing what happens when we apply a force to different types of materials in their science lessons. We tried squashing, pulling, twisting, bending and stretching to see what happens to the materials.
Class 2R have been learning about Maundy Thursday and acting out the story of the Last Supper. They discussed the important message that Jesus taught us and thought of ways that they could care and look after others.
Class 2R have started to learn about 2d shapes in their maths lessons. The children have been learning about shape properties and lines of symmetry.

The children have started to make their own monster sculptures using some recycled materials. We can't wait to see our final sculptures.
The children have been creating collages of different sculptures and materials to help them to prepare for making their own sculptures.
Class 2R had a great time researching, designing and making their own vegetable pizza in DT.
The children have been researching which would be the best base to use when making a pizza.
The children have been studying work from the artist Brendan Jamison. The children then created their own sculptures using sugar cubes. Can you guess what buildings we have created?
The children have been using a variety of sketching pencils to investigate tone by drawing light/dark lines and patterns.
The children have been reading the Children of Lir during their guided reading sessions.
Class 2R had a great time dressing up as some of their favourite characters today for World book day. Can you recognise who we all are?

Deacon Eddie came to Class 2R today to give us ashes for Ash Wednesday. We have been thinking about what good deeds we can do during Lent.
Congratulations to Class 2R who received their certificates for completing the Paws-B mindfulness course with our school Councillor Eddie.
The children have been learning about Edith Cavell in their history lessons and have been looking at the similarities and differences between Edith Cavell and Florence Nightingale.
The children are learning about fractions in their maths lessons. Today we were investigating how many different methods we could find for sharing a piece of paper between four people.
We have started to learn about Florence Nightingale today in our history lessons. We worked together to compare what nurses uniforms where like in the Victorian times compared to the present day.

The children have been learning how to play the djembe which is an African drum in Music. They also got the chance to practise being conductors.
Class 2R have begun history week by looking at famous people. We identified who the people and why they were famous. The children then ordered the famous people on a timeline.
The children have been practising their clarifying skills in their new guided reading sessions. The children are developing a new skill everyday to help improve their comprehension skills.
The children have been exploring how many different ways they can make one pound using different coins.
The children have been learning the African hymn Siyahamba. Take a look at our first and final performance. We are very proud of the progress we have made.
Class 2R have been learning about Chinese New Year in their Mandarin lesson. Did you know it is the year of the pig?
The children have been celebrating safer internet day. The children have been learning about choices and how it is always important to ask questions and choose to ask for help if they are unsure when using the internet.
The children acted out what they used the internet for whilst the other children guessed what it was.
The children have been creating models of the internet using cups and string. The children then pretended to be different devices and told another device what they were and what they use the internet for.
Class 2R are learning about money in their maths lessons. We have begun to look at the value of different coins and notes. The children have also begun to count amounts of money and write the amounts using the correct notation.
Parents: Can you help by talking about money when you are out shopping to find out the cost and change?
The children have been looking at the different ways they use the internet.
The children have been investigating which material is the most suitable for making a waterproof jacket. The children also practised their observational skills by seeing what happens when we cover paper with wax crayons and drop droplets of water onto it.
The children have been looking at the shirt machine explanation this week. They have been practising their Talk 4 write actions to help them retell the explanation.
Class 2R carried out an investigation to answer the following question;
"Is it true that all hard materials can't absorb water?"
The children use their measuring skills which we looked at in our maths lessons last week.
Class 2R have been looking at explanations in their literacy lessons. The children looked at the difference between instructional texts and explanation texts. They then recorded some of the features of the different text types.
The children began science week by looking at the topic materials. The children worked scientifically in groups to investigate which cloth was the best at absorbing water.
The children have been creating their own lap books to present everything they have learnt from their Africa topic.
The children have been exploring photographs from urban and rural Kenya to compare and contrast the different parts of Kenya.
The children have been using the iPads to research the big five animals of Africa. Each group researched a different animal and they will present their information to the rest of the class tomorrow. Some of the children even began to sort their data on the big five using the purple mash app.
The children have been learning about African culture in their geography lessons. Today we had a go at making our own African necklaces.
Geography and computing
The children have been developing their computing skills and geography knowledge by sorting animals into their native countries.
Class 2R have been exploring the theme of love in their collective worship session. The children have been thinking of ways that they can bring God's light to their family and friends.
Class 2R have begun to look at measuring the length of objects in their maths lessons. The children have been looking at objects that are less than 1 metre, 1 metre or more than 1 metre. We had great fun measuring with the tape measures.
Parents: can you help your child to find objects at home that are less than 1 metre, 1 metre or more than 1 metre?
The children have been learning the difference between National Parks and Game Reserves in Geography. The children designed their own National Park by practising their map skills.
Class 2R have been looking at books in their R.E. lessons. The children have been talking about their favourite books and have been discussing how we use different types of books in different places.
The children have begun to learn about Africa in their geography lessons. They located and named the seven continents and are beginning to name the 5 oceans. The children then located Kenya on a map of Africa.
The children have been practising their talk for write actions to retell the traditional tale Rumpelstiltskin.
The children have been looking at the pop artist Andy Warhol and have been creating their own pop art by experimenting with bright colours on repeated images.
The children have been enjoying their first dance lesson in the Spring Term.
